Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant at SM Mall of Asia

Last November 11, we headed to SM Mall of Asia to try the newly opened Watami Restaurant ( it just opened that same day ). We were SUPER EAGER because Watami is one of the restaurants we frequently go to whenever we are in Hong Kong. There are a couple of Watami branches in Hong Kong but the one we dine at is located at Hang Lung Center in Causeway Bay right in front of Saboten. So anyway lets see if the first Philippine branch is any good as that.

The interior is similar to the one in Hong Kong but it does not have the bar area which I love to have my meal at. It also has fewer items on the menu. I got sad because my favorite Crab Meat Cream Croquette and Rice Cake Au Gratin are not included but the noodle soup and beef are there. Now lets see if the serving is the same as the Hong Kong one where everything is only good for ONE PERSON!

Our orders:

PASSIONFRUIT TEA P145 for the companion, KIWI TEA W/ AGAR P145 for myself, LEMON TEA P145 for auntie, and a DIET COKE for uncle.

SCALLOP SASHIMI P395

It was fresh and it tasted sweet.

SALMON SASHIMI P225

Ahh... very normal. It kinda tasted like local Salmon. I'm not sure if their ingredients are from Japan though.

SELF-GRILLED SHORT RIBS P295

VERY VERY TASTY! Do try this.

ASSORTED SALMON SUSHI & SASHIMI P295

Again, the sashimis and sushis tasted all just ok.

SHRIMP TEMPURA ROLL P225

The serving portion is really 6 pcs. Someone just ate one before I can take a picture of it.

PEPPER BEEF RICE IN STONE POT P190

Very peppery. And I don't like the spiciness of it.

WATAMI SALAD P350

This was alright..

BEEF SUKIYAKI P365

We ordered one soup because it was stated in the menu this is good for sharing but that is not true!!! Only two people at most can share this so we had to order another soup.

WATAMI RAMEN P345

This tasted alright too.

To answer my pending question, the serving size of the menu items are all good for ONE! Imagine we ordered all of those and yet we still felt "BITIN" so we got a couple of Mochi Creme for dessert. My last comment would be is the service when we dined there was BAAAAAAADDDD!!! All dishes came out one by one with at least 15 minutes of interval. We had to request the waitstaff like 5 times to follow up on our orders. But of course, we shall be forgiving because it was the restaurant's first day.

Have A Lovely Day!
