Hai Kang Seafood Restaurant at Greenhills, San Juan

Another New Year tradition we always do is celebrating it with my Dichi's ( second sister ) husband's family. This started 3 years ago when the parents of my brother-in-law would graciously host a New Year's Day dinner for us. For the past 2 years the venue would always be at Annapolis Seafood Palace but since it started to degrade ( I heard though I'm not sure?! ) this year it was changed to Hai Kang Seafood Restaurant. I have never dined here before but I read a lot of good reviews about this place. Let's see if they are all true.

The food we had was the traditional Chinese Lauriat meal. According to Wikianswers: Chinese Lauriat was derived from Fookien (Minnan) dialect, Lao-Diat or "Re-Nao" in Mandarin, which means special occasion or banquet among Chinese-Filipino community. The banquet consists of around 10 big dishes with different kinds of exotic food, from appetizer to shark's fin soup, to noodles and desserts. It usually lasts 2 to 3 hours. - A good info to those interacting with traditional Chinese families. :D

We started our meal with a glass of fresh lemonade. Though it is common to drink hot tea, I don't like it. I prefer ice cold Coke or cold water with my meals. The lemon used were all fresh and the juice was so concentrated I had to put plenty of ice to dilute it a bit.

Our dinner menu:

SEAFOOD NOODLES

ASSORTED COLD CUTS

EGG WHITE WITH SEAFOOD

BRAISED SHARK'S FIN WITH CRAB MEAT SOUP

PRAWN CURRY

BRAISED MINI ABALONE WITH JAPANESE MUSHROOM

FRIED PIGEON

STEAMED CRAB

STEAMED LAPU-LAPU

STEAMED RED BEAN BUN

PEANUT MOCHI

MANGO SAGO

The food was excellent. I like that they put interesting twist to old traditional Chinese dishes. My only concern was they over booked the place to the point that nobody can walk between seats anymore without bumping the chair of a seated customer. The tables and floors were a bit dirty as well. I suggest since it's new year, they might want to invest on new tablecloths, dishes, and eating utensils.

Have A Lovely Day!

    1. Hi Erin! Uhmm... I guess the price is the same as when you dine at Tao Yuan or Shang Palace? It's alright. Its better to have lots of companion when having a Chinese lauriat meal kasi malalaki ung serving sizes and so that you can order more varieties. :D
