Matutina's Seafoods at San Roque, Tarlac City

My baby sister went to Angeles for a visit so yesterday my mom planned something different for us to do. We don't usually do the 14 churches Bisita Iglesia but at least we visit one every Holy Week. This year, we went to Monasterio de Tarlac to hear mass and pray a little. It was our first time to go to this place which is about 3 hours away from Angeles City. They say you get to ask for one wish whenever you visit a new church. It is said that the monastery holds a relic of the cross where Jesus Christ died.

"The holy cross came to the monastery in 2005 after its former custodian, the Diocese of Essen in Germany, deemed the SRC worthy to watch over the religious treasure.

The relic, authenticated by a papal seal, is said to be part of the cross discovered by Saint Helena, the mother Emperor Constantine the Great.

Religious accounts say Helena found three crosses and, to determine the cross of Christ, asked a dying woman to touch all three. The woman suddenly recovered when she touched the final cross."

After the mass, people started to line up outside the church to see the holy relic.

My mom asked us to fall in line as well.

22 minutes later, we were able to see the holy relic.

Actually you couldn't see the piece of wood itself. All we saw was this metal box.

My mom got this before going home.

We stopped by at our favorite seafood place Matutina's in Tarlac. We frequently dine here whenever we hear mass at Our Lady of Manaog in Pangasinan. Since Our Lady of Manaog brought miracles to my family, my parents pledged ( panata ) to visit her once a month and after praying to her, we always have lunch at this restaurant before going back to Angeles City.

Our orders:

GREEN MANGO SALAD

The mangoes used were the mabalang type so it was semi-sweet. Together with the sweet bagoong or shrimp paste, the dish whetted our appetite.

WHITE RICE

I was able to finished one and a half cup of rice!!!

PINAKBET

Sauteed bitter guard, string beans, squash, okra, eggplant, tomatoes, and shrimp. Delicious!

INIHAW NA BANGUS

My mom's favorite. All she eats at Matutina's is this grilled milk fish with white rice.

ADOBONG TALABA

Tiny oysters where used in this dish and there were a couple of oyster shells as well. We love the adobo sauce though.

SINIGANG NA BANGUS BELLY

They put in chili in the soup so it was hard for me to drink a lot of it because it was a tad spicy.

PUSIT CALAMARES

YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY! The pink dip which is made from ordinary mayo and ketchup was super good with the crispy squid!

SIZZLING GAMBAS

Fresh shrimps with canned mushrooms, garlic, onions, leeks, carrots swimming in margarine. I drenched my rice with the orange liquid goodness!

FREE COCONUT PASTILLAS

The restaurant gives complimentary coconut sweets at the end of the meal.

But I got my usual Nestle Drumstick from the chiller.

On the way back to Angeles we passed by a lot of men doing this.

STOP HERE IF YOU ARE SCARED AT THE SIGHT OF BLOOD!

You can only see this kind of ritual in Angeles. Men would cut their backs and whip themselves till their backs bleed. It's a sacrifice they do every Holy Week.

Have A Lovely Day!

    1. Yeah medyo gruesome nga pero those are people making sacrifices daw for the past mistakes they did or maybe they are asking for something from God daw then that's the sacrifice they do in exchange.
