Restaurante Fernando at Coloane, Macau

Macau was a Portuguese Colony from 1887 till 1999.  Till the present time, there are a lot of Portuguese who found permanent residence in Macau.

When looking for authentic Portuguese food, only one restaurant comes to our mind.

Restaurante Fernando is a family run laid-back style restaurant. It has been operating for the past 15 years.

This is the waiting area. We got here around 5:00 pm so there were not much guests. If you come to this place around 6:00pm, be prepared to wait for a table. They won't accept any reservations. They practice a first come first served rule.

I don't really drink so I skipped this and ordered a coke for myself.

SERVICE BREAD

The bread was exceptional! Crunchy on the outside and super soft on the inside. We took home a couple of these after dinner. :P

CAMARAO FRITO C/ ALHO MOP 188

The huge prawns were drenched in garlic and a spice powder making the dish tastes garlicky and a bit spicy. 

LEITAO ASSADO NO FORNO MOP 152

Oven roasted suckling pig. The skin was crispy and meat was heavenly tender! ( A must order! )

GALINHA ASSADA NA BRASA MOP 90 ( HALF ORDER )

Charcoal grilled chicken which was also tender.

BIFE BEBADO MOP 138

The steak was cooked in beer and garlic. It was tasty ( for all of my companions ) but the beer gave it a weird taste for me. I loved the fries though.

I was looking forward to have my favorite clams but it was not available. boo!

You will see the Portuguese family serving the meals to you. Feel free to have a chat with them. They'd love that.

After dinner you can play the restaurant's foosball or look at the different currencies donated by guests posted on the walls.
