Gloria Maris Restaurant, Greenhills

To my fellow shabu-shabu / hotpot lovers, we all know the top restaurants that serve quality meats, delicious seafood balls, freshest vegetables, and other needed items to make a very good pot of flavorful soup are Gloria Maris and Tao Yuan. Of course if you are looking for a cheaper alternative to these restaurants, there's always King One.

Anyway, one Sunday lunch we were all craving for it so off to Gloria Maris in Greenhills!

Boon Tong Kee at Mall of Asia

We went to MOA to do a couple of errands and to kill time because I had Lulu groomed at one of the pet salon in Macapagal area. We walked around the mall to find a place to have our early dinner. While walking we spotted this newly opened restaurant. The companion smiled instantly because having lived in Singapore for more than 4 years ( he studied college there ), he really missed the authentic and delicious chicken rice. Once, we have tried Wee Nam Kee located at Ayala Triangle but in his opinion, the taste was far from the original. We never went back after. It was quarter to 5 in the afternoon, as you can see there were no customers dining. We thought maybe it will be like Wee Nam Kee, just not up to par. Since curiosity got the best of us, we still went in and ordered.

Konbini Store, Greenhills

It was Sunday. The time was noon. We were supposed to meet up with my parents and other relatives for lunch at Mann Hann Greenhills. As usual it was super traffic in that area. My achi kept on repeating she was extremely hungry and needed to eat asap because she has to nurse her baby soon. After being stuck at Wilson Street for more than 20 minutes, we decided not to go follow the others anymore and just eat by ourselves. The nearest restaurant options were Angel's Kitchen ( our first choice but the small restaurant was full ) and Konbini Store.

Off to Konbini then!

Buzzy Bees Cafe at Rustan's, Glorietta Mall

Another Saturdate with the companion. He was feeling a bit hungry but since it will be dinner time in a couple of hours I asked if we could just wait. I didn't want to over eat because I was counting calories that week. So we decided to go kill time at one of our favorite place in Makati, the Rustan's Children's Floor. We love to check out new toys and goof around with the kids playing there.

While walking we saw this..

California Pizza Kitchen at Glorietta 3, Makati

When the cat ( companion ) is away, the Lovely comes out to play!!!

Whenever the companion leaves for business trips, these are the times I love to call my friends and bug them to go out and catch up with one another. This time, since everyone was pretty busy, my good friend Euni was the only one available for dinner. Since her work is located in Makati, we decided to meet up at Glorietta.

Inside Lovely's Bag

Happy Monday! I'm feeling guilty because surprise surprise, I'm flying again today. I'm going to Macau with the entire family. It was a quick weekend decision because we saw a promo flight going there. So before I leave I want to show you guys what's inside my travel Sac Lancel Roll 'N Rock in Rose Tote. You may have seen me using this a lot of times already because lately ( this year ) I prefer this bag because it is lightweight and roomy ( I can put tons of stuff ). Compared to Longchamp, this bag's straps are not painful on the shoulder.

Din Tai Fung at Taipei 101 Mall

It's Sunday! Hope everyone is enjoying their family day!

For our last meal in Taipei, we didn't want to dine anywhere but Din Tai Fung.

This restaurant ( for us ) represents Taiwan.

The Dragon at Sheraton Taipei Hotel

Superb Cantonese cuisine and the incomparable Palace Dinner are the hallmarks of The Dragon, Taipei’s premier Cantonese restaurant. Whether its dim sum or succulent seafood, The Dragon is the place to enjoy the best in Chinese cuisine.

Uncle Chris heard that I wanted to taste local cuisine so on our last night in Taipei, he took us to one of the best Chinese restaurant ( for him ) in Taipei. He definitely ordered a lot of pretty peculiar dishes for me to try on..

Ximending, Taipei

Ximending is another "must-go-to" place in Taipei. Known as the "Harajuku of Taipei", this is the area where youngsters hangout, foodies chow down, and shopaholics go gaga over the inexpensive trendy clothes being sold in hundreds of shops. Check out the stores and food stalls we saw there!

Home-cooked Meal at a Taiwanese's Home

Hello everyone! Aren't you guys curious what a local Taiwanese family eats at home?

Because I watch too much Anthony Bourdain's No Reservation every single night, when I went to Taipei I wanted to do the exact thing he does on his every travel. I specifically requested to Auntie Christine that I would like to experience the culture of Taiwan by sampling home cooked food at a local's house.

What can be more authentic than that?!

Hunghwa Teppanyaki Steak House, Tapei

Renowned for its fine dining, Hung Hwa Teppanyaki uses the freshest ingredients to create meals that are both healthy and scrumptious. This 31-years old restaurant with its elegant Japanese décor offers customers a wonderful venue to enjoy terrific cuisine.

The companion surprised me with a romantic dinner at this restaurant on our 4th night in Taipei. It was really sweet of him to make an effort and plan this because I thought we will be dining with various relatives all  throughout our stay in Taipei. Knowing I'm a sucker for fancy restaurants with excellent ambiance, he definitely chose the right restaurant which impressed me immensely. Auntie Christine went to have dinner with her other friends so it was just the two of us. <3

It's Movenpick Cafe!

Taipei City Mall ( Taipei Underground Market )

To my traveler friends out there who has an extra day or two to spend in Taipei, I suggest for you to go to Taipei Railway Station and get yourselves lost there. The place is definitely for food lovers and to my fellow shopaholics/ bargain hunters!

Lau Tsin Chuen Fa Nio Ro Tien, Taipei

Happy Friday my readers! Thank goodness the sun is up and shining! Hope everyone is alright after the heavy raining that has happened over the past few days.

So, on our 4th day in Taipei, we had brunch at this beef soup place called Lau Tsin Chuen Fa Nio Ro Tien ( according to companion ) because they know I love beef and I love soup.

Shilin Night Market, Taipei

Hello everyone! Oh my goodness. Yesterday, I thought the rain would stop but it didn't. I hope everyone is safe..

To all my blogger friends who keep on commenting they get hungry whenever they read my food posts, I would like to apologize in advance because this is yet another food GALORE entry. Of course visiting Taiwan, you cannot not go to Shilin Night Market!

According to Wikipedia, the most famous foods that one should try are:
  • Fried chicken steak (炸雞排)
  • Literal translation: "Small bun wrapped in large bun" (大餅包小餅)
  • Fried buns (生煎包)
  • Peanut candy (花生糖)
  • Oyster omelet (蚵仔煎)
  • Tempura (甜不辣)
  • Lemon aiyu jelly (檸檬愛玉)
  • Pearl milk tea (珍珠奶茶)
  • Stinky tofu (臭豆腐)
  • Oyster vermicelli (蚵仔麵線)
I made it my mission to try every single one of the items that night. Let's go see if I was able to do it!

Breeze Center Mall, Taipei

Good morning! How is everyone?

I pray everyone is safe and out of harm's way from the heavy rain..

After a weird but tasty lunch at Fu Ba Wang Chu Tsia, we went to a nearby mall called Breeze Center to cool ourselves from the scorching hot temperature outside.

Fu Ba Wang Chu Tsiao, Taipei

For today's lunch we had stewed pig's feet! I love pig's intestines and some other parts but I'm not a fan of pig's feet. It is because all that's edible are just the skin and fat.

From Wikipedia: ló·-bah-pn̄g (滷肉飯, lǔròu fàn) - minced, cubed, or ground fatty pork, stewed in soy sauce and spices, then served on rice.

Jui Fen Old Street, Taipei

After a good lunch at King Ping Tea Restaurant, we went to start our half day tour. Our destination was Jui Fen Old Street located within the hills in northeast of Taiwan.

Jiufen (Jioufen) used to the center of gold mining. The village is next to the mountain and facing the sea. In 1890, someone struck gold near Jiufen (Jioufen). The poor village with only nine families soon attracted prospectors of 4,000 families. The village once was gold city of Asia and called little Shanghai or little Hong Kong. However, with the decline of gold mining activities, Jiufen (Jioufen) fades. (http://eng.taiwan.net.tw/)

King Ping Tea Restaurant, Taipei

This was our first meal in Taiwan. I was not really hungry because before we left Manila, I ate our obligatory Jollibee meal ( a Jolly Spaghetti ) at the airport and also ate the breakfast meal served on board the plane. So basically I was still full by 12 pm. Anyway, Uncle Chris took us to this dim sum place close to our hotel called King Ping Tea Restaurant.

To people who are anticipating what I got from Taipei, well... I didn't actually shop much.

Not by my usual standards anyway. LOL.
