Jui Fen Old Street, Taipei

After a good lunch at King Ping Tea Restaurant, we went to start our half day tour. Our destination was Jui Fen Old Street located within the hills in northeast of Taiwan.
Jiufen (Jioufen) used to the center of gold mining. The village is next to the mountain and facing the sea. In 1890, someone struck gold near Jiufen (Jioufen). The poor village with only nine families soon attracted prospectors of 4,000 families. The village once was gold city of Asia and called little Shanghai or little Hong Kong. However, with the decline of gold mining activities, Jiufen (Jioufen) fades. (

Picturesque mountain views can be seen.

The special reasons for visiting this place are food and shopping!

The whole place reminds me of the streets I visited in Kyoto, Japan.

At the opening of the street is where this dessert shop is located. We definitely tried the famous Baobing or shaved ice dessert. Mine was composed of sweet mochi balls made out of taro and sweet potato, a cup of chilled silken tofu, shaved ice and ginger syrup. It was absolutely HEAVEN!

The companion quickly grabbed a cup of this Brazilian coffee bean drink. Like I said, he really went on a coffee journey and sampled almost all the coffee shops we passed by in this trip.

Look at those Godzilla sized mushrooms!

Stinky tofu.

Cute handmade candies.

A lot of shops selling Japanese style slippers.

The kids from our tour bus went gaga over this musical instrument.

Japanese style wrapped clothing.

Huge snail snacks.

Another must-eat in Taiwan are the meatball soups.

The meatballs are filled with grounded pepper beef.

The crowd.

Taiwanese sausages.

Chinese calligraphy brush pens.

Chinese antiques.

Another coffee shop located at the entrance where we bought boxes of Mango Jelly.

Good thing about food gift shops are they let you sample all their products so you'd know what you are buying. The kids and I attacked the mango jello :D

We got about 15 boxes before we left. It was that good.

Have A Lovely Day!
